What to look for in the months ahead
Autumn / Winter 2007
Autumn and winter are all about cosying-up and creating a welcome retreat from the harsh outside elements.
This season sees the summer trend for soft blues and greens take on a much richer tone, imagine deep, vibrant peacock shades of blue and green with splashes of sumptuous plum as well. If you're brave you can try these all at ones, but for a manageable scheme use just one of these tones with a basic neutral palette.
Metallics are still big news in accessories and furniture. For a magical effect that carries through to Christmas and the new year, try grouping a selection of metallic vases and candles on a sideboard or mantle piece.
Textures are all important at this time of year and this season we're seeing lots of rich velvets and silks to maximise the latest colour trends. This can be confined to a few cushions or for full effect you could indulge in some of the new textured, flocked wallpapers which are seeing a huge revival.
If all this is a bit heavy for you and you prefer a more minimalist approach you can easily update a neutral or white colour scheme for winter by adding a few warming, knitted throws and cushions, combined with some winter scented candles for a perfect snugly nest. The White company have a great range of knitted materials in a range of beiges and greys, perfect for a winter's evening.
